Looking for fitness programs for women in Santa Rosa? Learn why so many women love training in Muay Thai at PHAS3 Martial Arts. Fitness, confidence, and values in a supportive atmosphere.
When I look around my gym I am taken back by how diverse the students here are. There are young up-and-coming fighters as well as married couples in their 50’s and 60’s. Each of them are training to accomplish their own individual goals, but they are all doing this by putting on boxing gloves and joining the Muay Thai movement. One group of students that we’re seeing more and more are women in their twenties and thirties. Of all the fitness programs for women, why do they choose Muay Thai? In this post you’ll hear directly from two of our women students.
PHAS3 Family Member: Kristy
“Making the decision to start training at PHAS3 was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My teammates are more than just my training partners and my Sensei is more than just my coach. We are family at PHAS3.
Fitness Programs for Women: Muay Thai Changes the Whole You
Being a Muay Thai student has truly changed my life. Yes, I have become stronger physically, but most importantly I have become stronger mentally. I have gained confidence, self-discipline, and I have learned to practice humility both inside and outside of the gym. I am an overall better person because of this sport and I look forward to training at PHAS3 for many years to come.!”
PHAS3 Staff Member: Jessica
“I started kickboxing in the summer of 2013. Being 24 years old and at a large developmental stage in my life, I have learned a significant amount just within these 4.5 years alone. At age 19 I became a sexual assault survivor, developed severe suicidal depression, and started becoming a concerning alcoholic. Within this depressive state I also started to gain a significant amount of weight, which caused me to lose every bit of self confidence that I had left. May of 2013 I had a friend (former Phas3 coach Mike Koo) tell me about how much he loved his kickboxing. He was semi new to it, but his excitement and energy towards it made me a bit jealous. I could see his confidence soaring within that conversation. In that moment, I knew that this was something that I needed to at least try.
Muay Thai Empowers You
I went online and immediately found Phas3. It was the top search and had amazing reviews. I was nervous to go in, but at the end of July 2013 I finally got the nerve to walk in. The energy was insane when I first stepped in. Not the type of energy that was overwhelming, but more of the warm type of energy from the people who were just happy and excited to be there training. And from then on, everything did a complete 180 in my life.
I stayed committed and trained multiple days a week. The training helped me develop a healthier lifestyle. When I train my head becomes clear of anxiety, and my depression eventually ceased to exist. I lost 30 pounds, and all of my self consciousness became an insane amount of self confidence. I developed a better eating and drinking habit, and went from drinking every night out of control to maybe once or twice a week in control. My favorite part to it all was that my confidence that I gained from training allowed me to finally gain the nerve to come out to my friends and family. My coach and my teammates made me the person I am today. And their unwavering support is what kept me going and coming back.
My favorite quote from my coach, Sensei Ben Brown, is “there will be a million reasons to say no to training, but the moment you come in and try is when you will become greatness.”
I have now been working at Phas3 for 4½ years and I’m gaining even more influential and beneficial experiences here every day.”
